Woman Suffering from Migraines Are More Predisposed To Have Depression

Patients with headache, specifically migraine, are more prone to suffer from depression disorder, feel tired, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a medical study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical research involved 1090 woman who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in three different countries. Of the women surveyed, 347 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 443 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were tested with migraines.

The medical study found women with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among man diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical research found the likelihood of major Atypical Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms can incite or be a manifestation of major Psychotic Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax online and Depression may heighten pain perception,” said clinical research author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Major Depression suggests a prevalent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Atypical Depression complicates headache management and can rouse poorer outcomes for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The clinical study was supported, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American patient suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 15000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to amending man care through enlightenment and medical trial. A neurologist is a general practitioner with specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and frequent sclerosis.
